Living on the firebase, over looking Bong Son Pass, was seemingly endless days of heat and boredom or rain and boredom, broken up by an occassional trip to the ville or a firing mission in the middle of the night. C-rations were the norm. Once in a while, a hot meal was brought out from LZ English with the mail and it seemed like a holiday.

A firing mission in the rain. I'm the gunner in this pic. Joe Larson is on the Field Phone and, I think, Hilla is the ammo man.

I'd visit this girl in the Ville outside Phu Chat Airbase whenever I could...

Jim, like Harry, helped out with chores on the hill, Oct. 1969.

I don't remember one incoming round while on "The Hill". We played a lot of Hearts and Spades and sat our watch at night, while the days and nights dragged by. New guys replaced old guys and people got promoted or transferred, I got promoted to Sp-4 and then to Sgt. E-5, but I stayed on the hill until I was sent with a squad to guard bridge #9 on QL -1.
